My daughter learned to love books before she could read them. I’d do the voices, stretch the stories, and when she finally fell asleep, I’d sit there wondering what she’d make of it when she was older.
She’s older now and writing books of her own.

Between us we have strong opinions about audiobooks, a weakness for magical realism, and a running disagreement about whether it’s okay to mark your favourite quotes with a highlighter.
We’ve been having that argument for fifteen years. It’s still not resolved.
